Do you do alot of work with your hands / fingers? Typing, Gaming, delicate working

You mention your fingers have been stiff and aching when waking up but does that sensation go up into your wrists as well or a numb sensation? Because it could be a sign of carpal tunnel.

Or it could be a sign of infection. Your body trying to retain fluid for some reason and its going into your knuckles.

Definitely something to bring up with your doctor.

No numbness. IDK how high it goes. The next time it happens I'm going to focus on cataloging the feeling more. So far I've just been waking up at like 6AM, feeling the ache while barely conscious, and then sinking back into sleep. It only occurred to me today to put the joint ache together with the subtly swollen fingers, and that, gee, maybe I should be a tiny bit concerned.

Probably should've studied it more before posting anywhere. I was just a little freaked out (chronic conditions are scary, even when they're not life-threatening) so I jumped the gun.

I did take up tennis last spring, which I assumed was causing the swelling for a long time. But it's equal in both hands, and it doesn't abate when I take a couple of weeks off from tennis, so I feel like it's probably not the culprit.

You could well be right about some kind of (hopefully minor) infection. I'll talk to a doctor. Thank you for your suggestions!
