AYRT AYRT (the one above the AYRT lol)

I've been looking into reusable pads/liners, things like Thinx (period panties etc.) But which ones do I trust! Do I go for? For example, I know the first few days can be heavy AF sometimes and I'm in an office space. Like I can't just change in my work place and walk around with 3 or 4 bloody pads all day (or wet, if I manage to rinse them). What has been your experience with using them outside of home/a comfortable place where you can deal immediately? And what brand(?) Would you recommend?

NAYT, but as someone who switched to cloth pads a few years ago:

I use MamaBearLadyWear on Etsy. Her pads are cheaper than some others and they have an extremely ingenious flap system so that the pads dry completely. Overly thick cloth pads run the risk of remaining wet in the middle and not drying out, which is bad (obviously). Not hers. They can be tossed in the washer/dryer without any problems, normal detergent, and they're quick-drying as well so you can rinse one out, hang it up to dry, and it'll be ready to go again in about 12-14 hours.

As for the experience in public places, I can't really vouch for that because I use pads with a menstrual cup (the DivaCup, though there are other brands as well). I've heard people who use cloth pads usually just carry like a "wet" bag for the used pads and then a "dry" bag for the clean ones and change them in the restroom or something.

What I can vouch for though is that the comfort of cloth pads cannot be matched. There are varying thickness and they don't chafe like plastic ones do. Also, if you've never tried it, I do recommend trying out menstrual cups. They only need to be emptied every eight hours or so (on a heavy day maybe six hours, it depends), they're extremely comfortable vs tampons, and non-toxic with 0 risk of TSS. You can sleep/shower with them (which is great for that super clean feeling), and while it's recommended to replace them every year, I've had mine last 5+ years before the silicone tore. You have to be able to stand getting blood on your fingers when you empty it, but if you're fascinated, I don't think that'll be a problem for you!

There was a point (years ago) I looked into menstrual cups (Lunette) but my gyn was like ....mmm hold off on it please, I want to see more literature and studies on it before you go sticking medical grade silicone up your nethers lol. So I held off. That said, I can't really even get a tampon in, and the (smallest) cup, even when folded for insertion was bigger than the smallest tampon I was looking at. So ... I'll probably wait a bit before transitioning to cups. The blood factor is a non issue -- it's the fit and the finding yourself in less than sanitary places (i.e. a public restroom) that make me hesitate!

Glad to help! I hope they work out for you, I've been recommending her to anyone who asks because I've had such a good experience with them.

That's fair! Especially if you tend to be pretty small inside, it's probably better to hold off. I feel like they can't be any worse than tampons for sticking up inside yourself though when it comes to what they're made of lol (providing they come from a reputable company, of course).
