I think they meant that Yaoi is written by women for women, and is not gay porn per se (whereas Bara is written by men for men). I think they're arguing from the "it's not for gay men" standpoint that I've seen people use on here.

Yaoi isn't meant for men to get off on, it's meant for women to fantasize to. That is what I mean when I say it's not gay porn.

But on the flip side, it's still two men having sex with each other. So, in that aspect, it is gay porn. Your way of using the term doesn't necessarily correlate with everyone else's. So, if the OP wants to call it gay porn, he/she is not really in the wrong.

But don't you see? It's totally different because women don't "get off" on it, they "fantasize" to it!! Women would never do anything so indelicate as become aroused by (and masturbate over) pornography! It's just for their FANTASIES. Not whacking off. Totally different.

Yes it is. The "gay" part describes what's being depicted (more or less; I know it's not actually what gay men might do with either), not who the intended audience is.
