I fully have kudo notifs turned off and I almost never look at them. I'm one of the 'only care about comments'. Kudos just don't make me happy! I don't hate people who use them, like, whatever you know? I don't comment on every single fic I enjoy, I get it. if you're shy or tired or don't want to type on mobile, it's fine. but getting 'you have 47 kudos and 0 comments' on a fic for a popular fandom made me way more disappointed than 'you have 1 comment' on a tiny fandom, so I made it that only comments notify me. (and yes, I do have a fic with single-digit kudos, and a couple under 20. I have been in both sorts of fandoms.)

I low-key appreciate kudos abstractly, since I know lots of people filter by kudos, so hopefully it means more people will see the fic, but it doesn't mean validation to me the same way even a simply "I loved this!" comment does.

This is very understandable and relatable all around! I personally like kudos just as much as comments, but I totally get where you’re coming from. I also understand that you can like and prefer comments more even if you don’t mind kudos. And I especially appreciate that you don’t judge people that who prefer to leave kudos over comments, or don’t comment on every fic they read!
