Fair enough, although as someone who does mostly write that stuff, I see way more wanking about how people don't get any comments because they write small fandoms and rarepairs and it's unfair than I do large fandom people complaining they only got 100000 kudos on this one.

I've written for a wide variety of fandoms, ranging from massive and highly engaged (Harry Potter) to large but I only write stuff no one wants to see (Doctor Who) to absolutely tiny (several audio drama fandoms that aren't TMA).

Of those, writing stuff no one seems to want in a large fandom is definitely the most discouraging to me. Granted, I tend to stick with Classic Who, 12th Doctor, and various audio dramas and Faction Paradox spinoff bullshit, so I 100% shouldn't expect anything else, but it does suck sometimes. With tiny fandoms, at least you know that getting 0 engagement is to be expected.

Someone in my fandom kept talking about how their fic flopped because it only got a few hundred kudos. I'm amazed when I get over 20 kudos on my fics, and this person just kept saying what a failure this story was for OVER A MONTH. I finally had to block them because I couldn't take it any longer.

I treasure the kudos I get, but comments are always more special because they're actual human interaction.

I have straight-up zero kudos on some fics. Apparently, “My Little Pony” and “Graphic Depictions of Violence” is not a winning combination.

Jup. I value comments and kudos pretty much the same way cause I'm just so happy that people liked my fic! I'm ESL and the fandom I've primarily written for has 116 English fics and two of my fics getting over 100 kudos was mindblowing to me and getting like 30 kudos in another fandom that has whooping 16 fics still makes me so so so happy. Just. People reading my stuff when there are so many more talented authors out there is great in any way, shape or form! :D

I used to find Kudos/Likes kind of irritating, but then realized that it's basically just a wordless "Good job!" or "More please!" and grew to like, and even look forward, to them.

...Yeah... I don't tend to hang around people that whine about them, but I have friends in actual active fandoms like Star Wars who are like "Today I hit 1000 kudos on my fic I started posting a couple months ago! Yay!" and I'm like... how is a thousand kudos even possible...? I'm just gonna be over here happy time every time I get ONE.

Cause like, I joked before posting my last fic "Well, it sort of broke ME when I was rereading it for final edits, so it should have the desired effect on the three people who will read it."

(It got 4 hits and 1 kudos in under a week. I'm honestly shocked and pleased. :D)

I've seen the hits/comments/kudos ratios complained about too, and it makes me feel guilty for leaving a fic open on my tab list to read at my leisure, because every time the browser refreshes, doesn't that count as a hit? But I'm still here enjoying it and can only leave one kudos and one comment per chapter when I've finished the chapter TO comment on it.

I'll agree with this. For all the constant insistence that fanfiction is a fun hobby, a lot of people tend to take it WAY too seriously, and turn it into a competition when it doesn't need to be one.

DARWIN!!!! Best part of that show, and I'd watch the whole series again (including the hot mess last season) for that dolphin.

Also, I wanted to hate the ghost ship episode but ended up finding it very fun.

Agreed. I'm more a Crawford (mainly when he moved to Broadway in 1988 and Los Angeles in 1989-1990), Thomas James O'Leary, Hugh Panaro (he got better in the 2010s), Earl Carpenter, John Owen Jones, Paul A. Schaeffer, Peter Karrie, and Ethan Freeman fan (Ethan is close to the book than any other Phantom I've seen). At least Ramin isn't James Barbour (*shudder* That stuff aside, Barbour never captivated me and I felt that he was the weakest actor to have donned the mask. Should've been Terrence Mann of Les Mis fame).

Ramin never captivated me and I felt that he overacted in the final lair sequence in the 25th-anniversary concert. Not a fan of Hadley Fraiser's Raoul on that video either. It should've been Patrick Wilson since he and Sierra got amazing chemistry in the "Guys & Dolls" concert back in 2014 at Carnegie Hall.
