For me, it's The Monkees

ABBA, Moody Blues, Rod Stewart (thought technically he was still producing 'in my time' too), David Bowie, Neil Diamond. Basically all of the 70's.

The Bangles, Roxette, Rod Stewart.

Elvis. He died before I was born, and his good period was at least a decade before even that, but damn that boy could sing.

The Beatles and Pink Floyd are my tops. (I mean okay, Pink Floyd was still recording albums when I was in my teens - I remember my first boyfriend being disappointed by The Division Bell and later I heard it and went "wait WHAT?" But they've been around much longer than I have.)

Just in general though, I prefer music that was around before I was born. Not in a "there's no good music anymore!" sort of way because there are some modern artists I love. But the 60s/70s vibes are my fave and I can listen to those radio stations all day.

Edit: Also going to throw in the Doors and old Motown/soul in general.

Billy Joel, I guess?

Janis Joplin. I was 3 when she died, so she wasn't exactly before my time, but I didn't start listening to her for another ten years.

The Dave Brubeck-style 'cool jazz' (post WWII), swing, big band, folk-type music that was popular on the radio in the 30's, like Woody Guthrie.

It's so weird to see the previous comments to this question all being the music I grew up with...(except for early Elvis).

Springsteen (technically not from before my time, but I mostly like 70s Springsteen, which is)

I grew up on classic rock so Metallica and Pink Floyd.

Pink Floyd.

Rush. It'll always and forever be Rush.

I also been giving Pink Floyd a chance over the past few years. They scared me when I was a kid (it was Welcome To The Machine and the cover of The Division Bell that did it) and I refused to listen to them. I was a silly kid.

Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Queen

The Beatles. They were around when I was little, but I think experiencing Beatlemania as a teen would have been fun.

Also, The Doors.

Abba, The Who, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Journey, Queen, Boston, Beach Boys, Kansas, Foreigner, honestly so many. ABBA probably slightly edges out as top, but it is really hard to pick just one.

Queen, Dire Straits, The Carpenters, ABBA.

Classic rock from the 70s and 80s, swing, jazz, some of the crooners especially Nat King Cole, 60s music especially The Kinks.

But not The Beatles weirdly.
