Fave First Encounter plot? The Road To Eldorado. I'm a sucker for hidden worlds.

Tech gone wrong? He's atomic, a hundred meters tall, the personification of irresponsible nuclear uses of all kinds, and the patron saint of collateral damage. Godzilla.

Not really a First Encounter plot (because the people involved already knew about aliens lmao), but the Classic Who story "Doctor Who and the Silurians" is one of my favorites precisely because of the tensions between the humans and the Silurians, as well as the internal tensions within the two species as they try to figure out how to deal with there being another species that has a real claim over the planet.

Arguably not a first contact story but it's at least an edge case and I love it - Anathem by Neal Stephenson. God I love that book.

Favourite Elvis song?

What is your favourite song by The King? And why?

Mine is Guitar Man, but only because they used it as a theme tune to a goofy eighties/early nineties short lived sitcom. I loved the upbeat and fast paced tune, paired with the slapstick comedy. I love so many Elvis songs, but just because of that sitcom connection it raises more of a smile than most.

...I am just going to ignore the "is that one a cover?" question because I'm not actually sure if he wrote any of his own songs or was solely a vocalist. I'm torn between "Suspicious Minds" and "Can't Help Falling In Love".

But I am also so incredibly fond of his duet with Ann-Margret in Viva Las Vegas, "The Lady Loves Me". Mostly because of her lines though, since his are just typical scumbag male entitlement and she gives him what he deserves. :D

Because yep, I spent 5 hours in the car today. Not only got to bring home a bun, but got to hug a friend I hadn't seen for a couple years. =) But. Bun pics! Featuring a burnt loaf, blissed out from head pets, and apparently deciding my stairs are a great place to nap. ;)

I adore him already (and did confirm he's a boy), but I know I'm going to accidentally call him "Bear" several times because he looks so much like the only other lop I've had. XD

Movie Eras/Genres You Miss

Just saw a trailer for "The King's Daughter" and was reminded of my favorite kind of movies that ranged from the 80s-early 2000s which is that historical/fantasy (some a bit more campy than others, but still) akin to LadyHawk, The Page Master, Robin Hood (In tights and not in tights), Casanova (Heath Ledger Versión), Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast (French versions -- both Cassel and the one from the 60s/70s) etc. Etc.

Also those wild sci-fi animated ones from around the same time/the 70s.

What kind of movies do you miss?

I also miss the ridiculous early 2000s teen/young people movies i.e. Brittany Murphy movies, Freddy Prinze Jr type of movies. And the scary Ginger Snaps/Swimfan/urban Legends kinds too.
