Movie Eras/Genres You Miss

Just saw a trailer for "The King's Daughter" and was reminded of my favorite kind of movies that ranged from the 80s-early 2000s which is that historical/fantasy (some a bit more campy than others, but still) akin to LadyHawk, The Page Master, Robin Hood (In tights and not in tights), Casanova (Heath Ledger Versión), Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast (French versions -- both Cassel and the one from the 60s/70s) etc. Etc.

Also those wild sci-fi animated ones from around the same time/the 70s.

What kind of movies do you miss?

I also miss the ridiculous early 2000s teen/young people movies i.e. Brittany Murphy movies, Freddy Prinze Jr type of movies. And the scary Ginger Snaps/Swimfan/urban Legends kinds too.

I love historical/fantasy stuff too.

Scifi that leans heavy on fantasy elements. There is still some, but even fandoms that used to be that like Star Wars are leaning more onto the hard scifi and less on the fantasy elements.

Purely fun movies, either fantasy or scifi, that are just there to have fun, not super serious or taking themselves too seriously. Eg. The Mummy

Humor/Spoof scifi/fantasy movies (good ones) like Mystery Men and Galaxy Quest.

Low budget sci-fi/fantasy movies that didn't take themselves too seriously but still had the Huge Emotions boiling up.

Production teams seem too intense about the polish to have fun any more.

90s action films. The Mummy, Twister etc

Those mockumentaries from the late 90s/early aughts had a certain vibe, even when they weren't done in similar styles, that I miss. Think "Best in Show" or "Drop-Dead Gorgeous."

80s/90s action-adventure movies that worked as standalones even if they ended up as part of a series and topped out at under 160 minutes.

Big, unapologetic musicals.

And frankly, anything with decent audio mixing. That is a lost fucking art.

Omg "best in show"!

I saw it last year for the first time and it just cracked me up! Those types of movies are great!

Adventure movies and thrillers. God I miss thrillers. Real proper adult thrillers.

I love a good unironic, but unintentionally hilarious, disaster movie. But an honest-to-god "The Day After Tomorrow" only comes around once in a blue moon.

Adventure movies, not too historially correct pirate movies (loved the first PotC but was not a fan of the others), fantasy movies. All of these preferably not of the grimdark variety.

Well, I know they represent a horrible period in history. But I really love those old white hunter type movies. Obviously they'll never be made again, certainly not in the classic form, but I still like them nonetheless.
