Re: Inspired by 5 - what was the monkey's paw moment in your fandom?

He was double involved on Star Wars, triple even. We want a revival, oh shit, JJ; we want JJ out, oh shit, Rian; we want Rian out and the more problematic aspects of TLJ walked back, oh shit, JJ's back. That has to be a record.

I actually loved TLJ and what RJ did with it - except for the whole casino subplot -, so yeah.

I'm still really angry because TLJ was the very first SW movie that I didn't hate. And then we got whatever the hell was that horrible mess.

I liked Attack of the Clones, the Holiday Special and the Droids cartoons. TLJ was dreck that disgraced a franchise that had already given us wookiee porn.

I liked TLJ too, I think if they had stuck with those themes and used them instead of spending so much time undoing and then redoing the middle of the trilogy in part 3 we might have had something. I agree that the casino subplot was a mess for every reason, they should have kept Finn and Poe together. My biggest complaint is his treatment of Finn really, but JJ didn't ace that test either.

If JJ had a plan, if he was actually foreshadowing something and not just dropping obnoxious mystery boxes, he should have told RJ or done the second film himself. If he didn't have a plan for a trillion dollar franchise he's a hack.

The whole trilogy is such a mess and a disappointment.

If they hadn't tried to restart a trilogy in part two, then it wouldn't have needed a walk back in part three. The problem keeps coming back to Rian not wanting to do a middle part and wanting instead to either do a standalone movie, or have a redo of the first part as his own movie. If he'd been the safe pair of hands continuing the obvious tone and plot hooks, then it would have been fine. He'd already been told he was going to get his own trilogy later, he should have held his craptastic view to that, then it wouldn't have mattered.

Wanting the second movie in a trilogy to just continue the obvious tone and plot hooks of the first movie is boring and what's more, it's definitely not Star Wars.

If nothing else, TLJ was beautifully shot. It had cinematic value I wasn't expecting following on the bland-ass heels of TFA.
