(Anonymous) 2022-01-27 02:40 am (UTC)(link)Here's the whole behemoth, and the author posted the first five chapters of the rewrite last year. Dunno if it will ever all be posted/finished, although I hope it will.
The author has a bunch of chronic health issues I think. And iirc the archived version had also been tweaked and edited a bit before she decided she couldn't do it piecemeal and would have to do it again from scratch.
I'm not a good enough writer to do what she was initially aiming for with the original story, which was writing in a more flowery fairy tale style to reflect the narrator's bookish naivety and gradually making the tone more realistic as the character learned and grew.
I think the author could've pulled it off, though, if her health hadn't gotten in the way.
I've never published any fic longer than a couple pages or written more than a novella's worth of drawer fic, so I'm just impressed when someone whose work I like outwrites the whole of Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit, length-wise.

(Anonymous) 2022-01-27 03:10 am (UTC)(link)I think sometimes about posting unfinished stuff with a note saying "that's all folks" or similar, but I hate getting excited about where a fic is going and then it turns out the answer is "nowhere."
I'm okay with reading the fic I posted in the link because despite/because of the length I was more into it as a character study than for the plot. And the smut sometimes works as character study, too, although sometimes I'll skip it on rereading just because.
