I am really not into Doctor/Companion or Doctor/Human (or Human-equivalent) for the most part. Probably because it can never really be done in a satisfying way and the difference in lifespan and cosmic experience means I can't imagine it ever being angst free. I like a bit of angst but eventually angst gets in the way too much for me.

Even with some handwaving in terms of her not really being totally human, I wasn't a fan of pairing The Doctor with River either.

BUT I essentially became sold on Doctor/River when it involved Twelve because the chemistry the actors had was beyond what we got before. I think that's my hard exception to my personal rule.

Though I also agree with some fans who say it would be interesting to see how River would interact with Thirteen.

Yeah, Doctor/River and Doctor/Jack (and the nasty aftermath) have always been my exceptions because neither of them are completely human but, more importantly, they're not dependent on the Doctor for transport! Most Companions, if the Doctor dumps them somewhere, are totally stuck. They might hate it, they might make the best of it, but there's a massive power differential that is just nasty to me.
