I feel bad because I disliked him and his works for a long time and I feel vindicated. My vindication isn't worth all the hurt he brought to people.
For me it started with Dollhouse, the show is really icky. And then continued with my hatred of Firefly. I am on a rantpage every time when I see it in the lists of shows closed too soon.

I was never into his works either. I don't feel vindicated because 1. I just don't and 2. I never had much of an opinion on him in the first place but...

Now that he's #cancelled can we officially all stop trying to emulate his dialogue style? Pretty please? With a cherry on top?

NAYRT and I've never seen an episode of any of his shows, but I still write dialogue that gets described as Whedon-esque.

Sometimes I even annoy myself, but I can't seem to write people talking that aren't constantly going for the "witty" bantering style, and I wish I could shut it off at will.

He didn't invent that dialogue style, though. He's just credited for having brought it to TV. "Buffy talk" is really just how a lot of real teenagers, teenage girls in particular, have always talked, and TV just didn't reflect that part of reality before.

People vastly, vastly overstate how influential Whedon's writing actually has been. Most of what's influential from his writing is the patter-y smart rhythms, and that's not really unique to Whedon. It's not even unique to Whedon among 2000s TV writers.

And the specific thing that he gets blamed for - MCU dialogue - IMO is actually not mostly influenced by him and is mostly influenced by just, like, mainstream popular mid-2000s film comedy styles, not Whedon. Outside the movies he actually wrote it's basically Brat Pack Will Ferrell comedy.
