Re: If you could turn any animal into a fully domesticated species

I was of the information that while you can have snakes as pets, nobody had actually done the process of domestication to the grand majority of them if any could truly be called domesticated, i.e. breed traits into or out of a species so that the species itself was domesticated, which takes a fairly long time. So snakes are more like wolves in that you could probably make a wolf a pet (eta: in a couple generations lbr). But that wouldn't mean wolves (of any type) are domesticated like you would say dogs are.

But it's quite likely I don't have enough information! Which snakes are domesticated?

That said, I absolutely would like rattlesnakes to be domesticated. And asps. And anacondas. I just want to pet one.

I’m the one who didn’t have all the information actually. I misunderstood the meaning of domesticated and thought that snakes like ball pythons being kept as pets and being generally docile was a kind of domestication. Don’t mind me lol, I’m kind of dumb!

Those are good choices of snakes to wish to be domesticated, I’d like to pet those too! I’ve always thought snakes were really cute, even dangerous ones!

Eh, it's not stupid, I definitely looked up the difference between tame and domesticated, because I knew people had snakes as pets.

We've done a sorta soft domestication of every animal on the planet, with the possible exception of sharks and polar bears. Even wild perdators so rarely attack humans that it is front page news when they do, and usually has special reasons behind it, and many wild animals like foxes and raccoons even seek out humans to be fed and petted. Every animal that lives has an instintual reaction to us, that is the power of human domestication.

haha this reminds of those "aliens think humans are crazy because we pet everything" posts. What's up with sharks?
