as a deconverted ex-evangelical, I agree, more power to people who are doing podcasts where they are very honest and open about their deconversion, whether fast or slow. it's good for them, certainly, but also good for their audience to have someone to relate to as more and more people drift away from or outright reject religion. so if doing a podcast on myths has helped these guys get perspective that is leading them to deconvert? So much the better.

there are a ton of "atheist" podcasts and it wasn't until talking to people who had genuinely never been raised with a religion that I realized they literally had no idea how people who did believe but move on to questioning, doubting, changing beliefs, or rejecting beliefs altogether function. I'm glad those kind of atheists exist but in the present day it helps to have people who are on different stages of their journey toward unbelief as a balance of perspective.

I'm actually one of those "raised without religion" atheists! It was more of a result of cultural differences. My mother was raised Protestant but later identified as agnostic, while my father is a non-practicing Sikh. I think that as well as my upbringing in a heavily Evangelical population helped with seeing all different perspectives and learning understanding for people's differences. Some of my greatest friends are ex-Mormon, ex-cultists (that's a thing in Texas, believe me), and preachers. Everyone has a story and everyone will grow from where they started.

Oops, I think I should have said AYRT. My bad!

that's pretty cool, anon. I'm glad you were able to observe things from a safe distance. I've been down the rabbit hole and back, I don't wish it on anyone. you're too right about the cults, too, yikes.
