thanks everyone for the tips and such, i've definitely gotten better at finding stuff i like even though stuff i LIKE versus just find mildly interesting is still hard. but i'm having fun!

i even found one fic i absolutely loved and i remembered the trick with going into that person's bookmarks and such. it was an orphan account. excuse me while i scream

As one of the many anons who recommended checking the bookmarks-- yay!!! It's such a great way to find things -- people even maje collections sometimes of stories they've liked etc. So I hope you keep having fun. But the whole process is essentially divvying up the wheat from the chaff. Scouring a sewer for jewels. And it's the worst feeling when you find out it's an orphaned fic!!! so painful to know you'll never have more! So my condolences lol. T.T
