Writer Thread

Since it's the weekend, I thought it would be nice to open a thread for writers to ask questions or have a talk about anything they want related to writing. Have a nice Friday, FS!

How often do you write?

I have written almost every day for the past month, roughly at least 1000 words/day. Some days I wrote a lot more than others. I'm running into the issue of starting stories, in the past week, though. I need to stop attempting to start new stories and refocus on completing at least one fic that's been in my WIP pile for a while.

Almost never, then, once or twice a year, it all comes pouring out--3,000 to 6,000 words over the span of a couple days.

I want to do 500 to 1,000 words a day, but I don't have the stability in my life for doing so. I'm all sorts of frustrated with myself.

Varies wildly. I haven't written more than a few paragraphs for the past couple weeks between work, new pet, and health problems. (Doesn't help that the story I'm actively working on is the exact opposite of calming, and I only seem to have time for writing right before bed. Learned early on it was a bad idea.)

But then there was a point last year where I wrote about 100,000 words (a brand new story and a follow-up) in a couple months and I was pretty much writing or editing every moment I didn't have something else to do, because the story just came to me all at once and kept snowballing with "omg then this could happen!" and I wanted to get it all down before I forgot about it.

It depends. I try and write every day, but sometimes I'll get lazy and not write for weeks, then sit down one night and crank out five thousand words.

Hardly at all at the moment. I was too sick for a while, then I was better enough to write occasionally while resting. Now I'm better enough to do useful things but that means i'm too tired to write. I miss it bitterly.

I was feeling really shitty all week, had anxiety over my writing. Made me question what I was writing for and had to remember that I've been using my fanfics to process some personal things and that I don't have to talk about the two intersecting. No one needs to know that behind the vanilla sex is anxiety over trust and wanting to understand when to give and receive love in a loveless environment.

This past week I wrote a short story and an extra scene based on it. I haven't had that much fun writing in a while. Finishing that story reminded me how much I love writing.
I wish I could come up with more ideas to write about though or that I could write to prompts. Before that short story I'd been hopping between three novel length stories and frustrated when I got stuck on all of them. This little reprieve worked wonders for me.

Hope it helps you get unstuck on your other three, nonny :)

When do people write?

I used to write in bed but I'm just too tired.

Late at night, on the weekends I might be writing for a few hours in the morning, on rare days I can spend basically all day writing (but that only really ever happens once or twice a year).
