What are your favorite Twilight Zone episodes?

Midnight Sun is my all time favorite. Has the best music. https://youtu.be/BZgIgdHql64

The Invaders is great. I also love The Obsolete Man, I Am the Night—Color Me Black, and The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street.

The Midnight Sun, Walking Distance, And When the Sky Was Opened. I'm not a big fan of most of the famous ones that everyone knows, but I guess my favorite of those is The Monsters are Due on Maple Street. We read the original play in English class in middle school and then watched the episode at the end of the unit, and I liked the play better.

Nightmare at 20000 feet, The After Hours, A Stop at Willoughby, Walking Distance, The Obsolete Man, An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, Five Characters in Search of an Exit, Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up, To Serve Man, Time Enough at Last, Monsters Due on Maple Street, Living Doll, Shadow Play, and the Hitchhiker.

I'll try and give these without the twists. All Twilight Zone twists, even the minor ones, need preserving. They are all on wikipedia if you are curious, but uninterested in the show. My faves, in reverse order, are from both the classic and eighties rival of the show:

The Star: Based on the Arthur C Clarke story, grief, faith, and wonder, and spaceship.

Quarantine: A 20thC guy wakes up in a world of Amish New Age Mystics, but why?

A Message from Charity: A "modern" teenager develops a psychic connection with a girl from Puritan times. I don't think it is a great episode, or even a great story, certainly no great paradigm reshaping twist, but it has an easy charm that makes me love it nonetheless.

King Nine Will Not Return: A WW2 bomber has crashed in the desert. (this is the one which really fucked me up when I first saw it, this is the one which made me love the Twilight Zone Twist, waaaaay back when I was just a tweenie).

He's Alive: This one is about politics, and is as subtle as a brick to the face with it. Which it needs to be, it ain't messing about with the message here. Honestly more people should watch it, especially these days. Just not if you are planning on going into politics, please.

One For the Angels. This is a bittersweet heart warmer, no joke, of a tale of a man who has just one talent, and a chance to do one great thing with it. It is just perfect. Of them all, if I could only have one, this would be the one I pick.

I only remember one from when I was a kid, but it haunted me so much I still remember it. It wasn't the original series, it was in color so it must have been rebooted at some point, early/mid-80s maybe? Unless it was something else that was a series of short self-contained weird stories that I'm misremembering as Twilight Zone.

There was a guy who committed some crime and his punishment was that he would be treated as if he no longer existed. I think he had a mark on his head or something to signify this, and there were these little flying robot cameras watching to make sure that everyone treated him accordingly. So he'd sit down in a chair and someone would come along and sit right on top of him and stuff. And there was a girl, I don't know if she was his girlfriend or his crush or what... at the end, he found her similarly sentenced, freaking out in the middle of a crowded street or some such, trying to get anyone at all to acknowledge her presence, and he made his way through the people and kissed her. And I think the last shot was one of those little robot cameras closing in on them ominously.

I know I've seen other episodes but for some reason that stuck with me to this day.

"TWenty-Two" and "The Hitchhiker" never fail to give me the shivers every time I see them. And yes to classics like "Monsters are Due on Maple Street", "Living Doll", "Time Enough at Last", and "The Obsolete Man".

"The Masks" is another good one. And I love all the ones that have actors from "Bewitched" in them - I always get a kick out of the one with Dick York, "Penny for Your Thoughts", 'cause its plot could pretty much be the plot of a "Bewitched" episode :D.

When I was a kid, I liked "The Masks".
As an adult, I can't really choose. It's been a while since I've watched them all on Netflix. What comes to mind: "The Odyssey Of Flight 33", "Five Characters In Search Of An Exit", "Time Enough At Last", "The Obsolete Man", "And When the Sky Was Opened", & "The Lateness Of the Hour".

Weekend Plans

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2022-02-05 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
What is everyone doing this weekend?

I spent the last 3 days working from home due to a snowstorm so this weekend will be lamenting that I have to go back in office on Monday. My sister bought me the new Pokemon game so I'll probably be playing a ton of that.

Sleeping mostly. I've got a cold currently. I was really glad that yesterday and today were snow days so I could work from home.

Feeling in the mood for MCU movies, so I'll probably watch a few of those.

Work up the courage to go to the doctor and get tests done. I need to know, without being specific, if it is the thing I am really worried about, or whether it is something more minor, because it sure as hell hasn't cleared up on its own for the last month. So, I'll be busy working up the courage to call first thing Mond...Tuesday. I need a bit more courage. That won't really leave room in brain for anything else.

Hopefully NOT fixing my toilet any further. -_- I just got back from a rush trip to Lowe's to get a new supply line because somehow within about 2 hours time there was a massive puddle spreading across my bathroom and leaking through the basement ceiling underneath. I *think* it's fixed, or at least the leak has been slowed to the point where it's not visibly dripping, but we'll see.

Since I had to put in a Lowe's order, also ordered some more of the good primer for the cosplay bits I need to paint, but they don't carry the same paint I'd been using so I had to also put in a Home Depot order. Once I pick that up tomorrow I can hopefully do something with all the resin pieces I've cast that have just been sitting around uselessly. Would like to actually make progress on this costume because I want to finish it by my birthday in May.

Also since I got a 4.5 day weekend instead of a 3.5 day weekend this week due to snow, I lamented on FB I was running out of stuff to do already - and a friend who recently got a new puppy suggested maybe she could bring the pup by and we could go for a trail walk tomorrow. Trail walk + foot of snow + friend + puppy? Yeaaaah, I hope my body and the weather hold up. :D

Clean the fridge while I'm the only person home this weekend. I got started on complex house cleaning today with the oven, which was looking way crusty and greasy. It feels so nice now that it's clean!!
I also plan to go to Target to buy my younger sister and nephew birthday presents since their birthdays are approaching.
And then, on a very personal level, I hope to get some writing done, instead of finding distractions.

I'm going to my favorite Japanese restaurant for dinner tonight and having a big bowl of their curry chicken and one or two Sapporos. I'm excited, their curry is my absolute favorite! And the new armchair I ordered back in November during a Black Friday sale is finally going to be delivered tomorrow afternoon so I'll probably spend a lot of the rest of the weekend in my new chair.
