Similarly, my favorite instant coffee apparently got discontinued a few months back. Fortunately I'd stocked up not long before, but I am more than halfway through my final jar and have yet to find anything similar in both taste and texture and so I'm dreading having to switch to something that's just not as good. :/

(Also not so recently but ongoing - it's so freaking hard to just find white grapefruit juice, or white grapefruit so I can squeeze my own. Red/pink grapefruit is too sweet for me, and causes my intestinal weirdness to act up, so I suspect it has a higher fructose content.)

Do you have a Kroger in your area? I remember that they used to carry it around here.

Nope, we're out of Kroger territory. Assuming you mean white grapefruit juice, I used to get this really nice but expensive stuff with pulp in it, but then that disappeared from the Meijer shelves... So I looked around elsewhere locally. Walmart had some from Ocean Spray that was apparently packaged for bartenders to use in mixed drinks, so it lacked pulp, but at least it was pure white grapefruit juice. But they've been out of stock on that for as long as they've been out of my apparently discontinued coffee (a few months) so I'm thinking they stopped carrying it and it only shows up as a possible purchasable item because I bought it previously so it's still in my "reorder?" list.

Allegedly it can still be acquired locally at GFS, which sells the bartender version, but they don't offer curbside service. My parents occasionally get Shipt orders from around town though and sometimes they get stuff from there, so I'm hoping they can add a couple bottles onto their order next time. I wish all my favorite things weren't apparently so unpopular with the general public.

You know I am almost 100% sure I tried this last year, and as soon as I tried to create an account it told me it couldn't deliver the Ocean Spray to my area. (This is the first time I've ever heard of Schnuck's... Maybe some non-local chain's store brand?)

Although at that time I think Walmart wasn't carrying them yet (I'd gotten both those versions of Ocean Spray there, there's literally no difference in even the bottle except one is marketed for bartenders) so maybe it literally wasn't available anywhere locally even though it was available in other markets that Instacart serves. Sometimes stores' websites think I'm in California or Texas and give me California/Texas options.

...If they don't have a minimum order, I may try it again. I don't buy a lot of groceries due to basically not being able to eat solid foods. :P But thanks for looking, either way! The hunt for white grapefruit has gotten so ridiculous I'd largely given up after spending multiple entire evenings on it.

Schnucks is a St. Louis based grocery chain, been around since the 30's (I guess it looked locally for me in my area - St. Louis is two hours from me).

Ugh. So I did put in my zip code and address and it wouldn't let me go back to these pages, but instead pulled up "similar products" in local stores, and none of them were white grapefruit juice.

This is bizarre. Meijer used to have their own store brand white grapefruit juice, and it was fine. I think either Walmart or Target did too. With at least two chains that I don't have locally, it's still doing well enough to have store brands, but here I can't even order name brand?

Technically I could get it through Amazon except 1: every time I've looked it's way overpriced compared to what it was in stores, 2: shipping liquids ain't cheap, 3: I am not giving money to Jeff Bezos unless I absolutely have to (including for free Prime shipping).

I should've stopped at a Kroger when I drove to OH to pick up the new bunny a couple weekends ago. :P

More amusing note, this reminded me that there is a St. Louis, MI. Tiny little town of the "downtown is basically one block with the equivalent of strip malls on each side except they're all locally-owned small businesses and everyone knows everyone" variety. It caused me much confusion some years back when someone I know msged me about a rescued rabbit who needed a home "in St. Louis", and I was like "...As much as I want to help this sweetie, I think there's probably someone closer..." :D

Yeah, I hate Amazon and try my best to avoid it. I was buying something last year and every link sent me to Amazon and i was like 'wtf' and so i emailed the company and they were like 'oh yes, our Amazon store', so that was the only option. Really annoying.

Hey, I've visited that second link before - I remember some of the comments! The first one about the history, I don't think I've seen. But when I started not being able to find it anywhere, I did some googling and found some similar articles about how white grapefruit was just not as popular and so less was being grown - but also one of them said there was some kind of disease or fungus that attacks citrus trees that had gotten more widespread. Often orchards that already had the white grapefruit trees were being wrecked, and since it wasn't as profitable, they didn't replant them. :/

But yeah, the Facebook link... I came across that while trying to figure out if they still sold 64oz bottles of white grapefruit juice, because at some point they just switched to "100% grapefruit juice" and it was visibly redder. Was nice to see I wasn't the only person who not only noticed, but was not pleased. :P I was okay with 32oz bottles or cans though, when I could find them!

I dislike mixed/blended juices for the most part, because yes - they make them WAY too sweet. My favorite juice ever is Pom Wonderful pomegranate-cherry juice. OMG. But it's damn expensive, so that's an 'occasionally' kind of thing. As a rule, I drink no sugar added Clover Valley grape juice (that's the dollar general brand) or a local oranje juice (Hiland). But oj is so acidic, sometimes it bugs me. I *do* like pink grapefruit juice when it's no sugar added, and I *love* pineapple juice, but it's hard to find (and omg, don't leave it in the can).

Most juice blends are too sweet for me, and it's hard to find 100% juice. Simply juices are good, but expensive, but weirdly also kinda sweet, for all that they are 100% juice/no sugar added. Not sure how that works.

I used to make Black Cherry kool-aid when we were poor-poor. Two packs of kool-aid, 1/4 cup of sugar. One pack calls for one CUP of sugar. GROSS.

Oh man. I feel like I would love pom/cherry, but sadly I am pretty sure I remember pomegranates being a no on low-FODMAP, and cherries definitely are. :/

But yeah. Juice blends/cocktails are almost always too sweet for me. And now I can't even drink most of them if they ARE 100% juice due to either FODMAP (a lot of them use apple juice as sweetener so they can still say it's 100% juice) or just... too much sugar naturally. And like... white grape juice is delicious but messes up my gut if I drink even a little bit per day, where purple grape juice seems to work better. It's weird. And I seem to be able to drink more citrus when there's pulp. Orange and pineapple are great, as long as I don't drink too much. (And there is a certain nostalgia for me in those little cans of Dole pineapple juice... suddenly I'm 8 years old sitting outside with all the other kids at lunchtime during day camp... :D)

Buuuut. On the subject of white grapefruit DRINKS, usually I can dilute the fruit juice with diet Squirt to get more fluids with less sugar. Grape juice or cranberry juice or blueberry juice are fantastic that way. And right now since I can't find white grapefruit juice at all, let alone with pulp, I'm mixing 50/50 diet Squirt and pulpy orange juice, with a sprinkle of ground ginger. Gets me my bitter citrus fix.

...I still sometimes get unsweetened kool-aid and just add it to other drinks for variety. But yeah, I was never big on making that sort of thing to the directions - if I wanted to just drink sugar water I would drink sugar water (and I did not).

I have never heard of low-FODMAP before, so i had to google it. Being as I have Crohn's, maybe I should look into this!

It said pomegranates themselves were low-FODMAP, but the juice wasn't tested. And man, does that SUCK, because cherries are my favorite fruit after strawberries. Man.

I love love love pineapple juice but yeah - same as oj, the acid gets me. Grapefruit actually does that, too, but I rarely drink any of those juices to excess - just a glass here and there, when available, like at a bar or more upscale restaurant type place that has more than cheap oj concentrate, heh.

Funny enough, if you go out for breakfast almost anywhere and order grapefruit juice, it's gonna be white.

Right? So many drinks are just so grotesquely sweet, I cannot. I've tried those 'power' drinks a couple times 'cause my daughter likes them, and good gods. They are horrifying.

Yeah, low-FODMAP (and the condition I was hoping to treat with it) are not so well-known in the states. But real doctors weren't helping, so I spent a lot of time with Dr. Google. :P It didn't clear up my GI issues, but unexpectedly I stopped having days-long panic attacks and week-long migraines, so I'll take it! Even if it means having to cut out/back on some favorite things. (Fortunately I learned I can still have garlic and stuff with trace amounts of high fructose corn syrup as long as it's not every day!)

Honestly part of the draw for citrus for me IS the acid. My stomach does not seem to produce enough of it and stuff just sits there not digesting unless I stimulate it somehow. So for the last few years, I add tabasco, coffee or lemon juice to just about anything that isn't already highly acidic, or wash it down with an acidic drink. It's the exact opposite of what you're told to do for reflux, but it actually lessens mine because my gut actually starts moving stuff in the right direction. :P

...And yeah, you're right about the white grapefruit juice pretty much anywhere if you go out. Maybe because restaurants have it on hand for mixed drinks at the bar? But only some mixed drinks use it, so maybe they want to move it at breakfast too. ;)

...Have not tried power drinks, but the last time I had Gatorade... I'm not sure if it was a coincidence and the bug I had was what actually did it, but after drinking a couple ounces to try to hydrate, it's like my taste buds completely burned out and there was this taste in my mouth for the next two weeks that was like the smell of something sweet rotting, no matter how many times I rinsed my mouth out, and everything that was sweet tasted like rot also. I've been really dehydrated for the last couple weeks and have some Gatorade in the fridge but am honestly afraid to try it again because that was horrible. :P

When i had major abdominal surgery because of the (undiagnosed for years) Crohn's, I lost my gallbladder, too, so yeah - my liver is not compensating, heh.
For me, the acidic stuff either makes me feel nauseated/heartburn-y (which i never ever had before), or ....very uncomfortable later when it's made it way to the end of the guts. Fun times.

I have only tried the occasional 'Monster' or whatever that my daughter insisted i try. NAUSEATING. Gatorade is gross, too - it's like I can taste the chemical dye. I'd rather just water.
