I like this headcanon. Or even just a defeated heavy sigh and a, "What is it you're actually offering?"

Now that I think about it, it's really weird to think about most of the players getting slapped to shit the way Seong Gi-hun was. I mean, there is no way in hell that thug guy let someone slap him even once without just straight up fucking murdering them, so I'm not sure what happened with his recruitment. Maybe they have a few different approaches that they choose between depending on the nature of the mark.

Yeah the methodical way Sang-woo seemed to approach the actual games is why I think he might've just gone "cut the bullshit" with the Salesman but he was desperate enough to still need the money on offer.

It IS interesting to think about some of the other players. Like, I can imagine why Gi-hun was willing to stand there getting his jaw rearranged for so long but some of the others, I'm not so sure. Perhaps the Salesman just goes for as long as he gets a kick out of it without endangering himself and then drops the bombshell.
