Two things:

1) people absolutely made and make assumptions about how fantasy lovers think about real life and always have from time immemorial about every single aspect of fiction you can think of. There was a period of time where people slagged off on comics lovers as promoting dangerous ideas, lmao. There was a point at which the type of books housewives read were absolutely considered by a reflection of and contributory to women's "silliness." You can think this is unreasonable (and with some arguments like the ones I mentioned I agree), but this secret is so myopic OP. "Are your desires you? I think so, and I'll act on it" is a truly long-standing part of human nature, a group of beings not really known for coherent or consistent rational thinking.

2) it is unrealistic to think fiction to real life is 1:1. There have been some truly damaging ways this thought-process has directed actual policy. So I completely understand being skeptical of and irritated with people pedaling some 1:1 nonsense. However, I do think the things you have an affinity toward means that those things are easier to normalize for you than people without such an affinity, and that means it's worth looking about the type of things people in the aggregate have an affinity for. I often find that people who have your view OP tend to ignore how aggregate feelings work on social spaces. And they tend to ignore when complaints are about aggregates, using individuals as examples. Maybe that's not you and maybe all the complaints you hear are directed to people personally, but yes a lot of people with an affinity for dragon-slaying knights would make me feel like there's a just world perspective underlying that.

Oh, they're still at this. And don't even get me started on the incredibly insulting things said about young women who liked Twilight!

They've expanded to any women instead of just housewives now, yeah. Twilight is an mormon-infused abomination, but it's telling how the narrative around it was shaped around female desire at all rather than what kind of desire Edward and Jacob were giving (something representative of their high school romances maybe?)

Speak for yourself, I was always blasting it for how abusive the guys were and how Mormon propaganda-ish it was! That's most of what I heard, even!

Oh? You were a journalist for a known publication? When I say "they" I'm not talking about netizens with no general reach.

Uh... no?

Fam , I could write literally 100 self insert stockholm smut fics and I STILL wouldn't wanna be kidnapped and raped in real life. Nor would I want anyone else to be.

Can you tell me why you quoted me as saying "it's worth looking about the type of things people in the aggregate have an affinity for" and then said no, and described a scenario for you as an individual?

Further, can you explain why "I STILL wouldn't wanna be kidnapped and raped in real life. Nor would I want anyone else to be." would be evidence of a lack of normalization, which has zero to do with active desires?

You can just say you didn’t understand what meadowphoenix meant without proving it like this. It’s embarrassing how much you missed what they were saying. Either that, or you ignored their points, which isn’t much better.
