To be fair, Luke fell into the exact same trap like an episode later, despite everything he should have learned from saving his father and everything you'd think he'd feel having a sister of his own. Of course, we sort of expected that from the sequels, but yeah. Jedi do not learn in this version of canon, despite two whole trilogies of movies to learn from.
