Transcript: I hate stories that follow the "five stages of grief" (even worse, when they actually mention them by name). It's not just inaccurate - it's bad, lazy storytelling that makes a character's emotional arc less compelling.

I also believe that it contributes to people feeling like they're doing grief "wrong" when they don't experience it like that.

Agree, except for the "fandom choosing to ignore the 'no gender'" part.

My experience with this fandom is they love to claim they're writing "inclusive" "not actually cis white dudes" "totally nonbinary" fic (while still actually writing them at every turn as two cis white dudes).

Like, do they ignore it in practice? Yep, absolutely. But boy oh boy, do they love to insist they don't.

Same. I'm not American, so I just wrote the crows in Dumbo and those loony tunes cartoons as being weird funny American things. There are lots of American things that didn't make sense beyond being just goofy, after all, when you are missing the cultural context. Then I got old enough to learn that cultural conflict, and I'm right conflicted over it now. I know I own the happiness I felt over them, but I can't enjoy it looking back anymore.
