What is everyone doing?

I'll be watching my niblings tonight. Tomorrow will be really cold so will be staying in and catching up on some podcasts. Other than that, nothing much.

Already picked up supplies to make more costume progress, and was hoping to make fic progress, but I've gotten some inspiration for something kind of fluffy instead of the really anxiety-inducing thing I was working on, so who knows...? At least I wrote two paragraphs of something and have gotten a few more things attached to the costume. (Very related note: Happy 22nd anniversary to my One True Fandom, VS was released in Japan Feb. 10, 2000!)

Also, some who took part in a discussion last week may be pleased to know that one thing I will be doing this weekend is drinking white grapefruit juice. Because when I was out picking up supplies today, I stopped by my parents' house and since my dad had seen me grumbling about it on Facebook, they'd nabbed some at a food service place that sells the bartender-labelled Ocean Spray stuff. :D

risking going to the garden expo because my mom really wants to go and visit me at the same time. I kind of didn't want to but now I'm locked in and ugh. just gonna drink up tonight and hopefully just be in a haze of not giving a shit.

I think maybe I'll go see Spiderman? I'm lazy about the MCU and haven't seen the other MCU Spiderman movies but people are clearly finding this one very entertaining.

Movies at home tonight w/ beer, popcorn and Chinese takeout (already watched the Godfather part 2) my best friend's house tomorrow (if he doesn't cancel again, hope hope) not sure about Sunday.

... but you wouldn't mind if someone else made them for you! As always, including the fandom and full character names is a big help, and I'll try my best to use an appropriate image choice. Just to clarify - it's my intention to make all the secrets left in this thread, so even if they're not marked claimed, they will be made.

It seems D&D is on the upswing again. And people seem to love goofy fun games too. Yet with all this new attention, and especially with the focus on fun, nobody is running Gamma World games. Why does nobody want to play Gamma World? Gamma World, especially 2nd Edition, was hilarious.

All teacher-student pairings in fanfic are super creepy, but Snape/Hermione fanfic is the creepiest.

Disney's next live action remake ought to be a reboot of Song of the South, specifically, they should hire Jordan Peele and give him free rein to do it right as he sees fit. I don't know what it would look like, but I know I'd watch it.

In Star Trek Voyager fanfic, it was not an uncommon plot bunny to have characters using the mess hall for sex. All I can think is that even with sweaty butt marks on the tables, it was still less gross than Neelix's cooking.

They should do a Bosom Buddies reboot for tv's next big sitcom, but the twist is that during the series one of them will discover they were trans and repressing, and want to transition. The other freaks out over it, naturally.

I've really been enjoying Critical Role's cartoon, The Legend of Vox Machina, and I enjoyed the graphic novel they made too, but, boy howdy, does their regular youtube content just stink.

This might be the biggest piece of fandom heresy I ever uttered, and one that is most likely to get me hunted down and hanged from the rafters, but I didn't like Josh Kirby's Discworld cover art, it looks so awful that it put me off trying the books in my local library for the longest time.

When I tell that I am hanging in there by a thread so that I'm able to see the new seasons of Barry and Stranger Things (and possibly stumble upon other good TV shows wherever I find them), I literally mean it. Escaping into fandom is saving my life.

Every time talk of an adaptation of Iain M Banks "The Culture" works come up I worry that if they move forward they won't get the ship names right, they'll all have too much gravitas.

I want to like fandom spaces on Reddit but they feel kinda astroturffey.

For example, he MCU sub had a post where the OP stated a preference for the films where the director's voice came through. Among these "less mediocre" films? Iron Man 3 and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

It's like all those think-pieces about how the Star Wars Prequels are better than we remeber... right after Disney paid 1 billion dollars for them.

It's so fake. I prefer my fandom under a rock where producers won't look.

Video Essayists you love

I know the other day we had people debating how much they did or didn't like Sarah Z and others, I wanted to hear who you enjoy, who you think is underrated and such :)

Folding Ideas blew up with his NFT video but I still want to shill him here - if you haven't watched his other stuff, I can only recommend it. One of the very few channels where I actually feel like I have learned something and become smarter from watching, not just absorbed someone's Opinion About A Thing. Also him tearing Doug Walker apart was art.

hbomberguy will always hold a special place in my heart because I was studying game design during the height of Gamergate and his videos made it all feel so much less overwhelming and frightening. His Donkey Kong stream also cracked my egg and y'know, I love his content. Sometimes his jokes might feel a bit tryhard and his media analysis a bit pretentious, but I don't mind that.

As for someone who's underrated, I'd suggest you check out Quinn Curio, she's incredibly funny. I haven't even seen Gotham or Riverdale but her videos on both still took me out.
