All teacher-student pairings in fanfic are super creepy, but Snape/Hermione fanfic is the creepiest.

I trust I don't have to explain why.

The creepiness is the appeal.

I don't think some of the writers realize that.

the best ones did - that's what made it hit that sweet spot between disturbing and titillating.

People are not going to respond positively to this secret

If they were going to be positive, would it need to be a secret?

I get where you're coming from but that doesn't empirically seem to be peoples' attitude when making secrets in general

Seems like people are mostly happily discussing their favorite creepy teacher/student pairings, which seems like a positive response to me!

... a deeply puckish part of me now wants to put this question to a poll: what is the most creepy student/teacher pairing in HP? Because I'd personally hand that the Quirrel/Harry. Or possibly Dolores/Anyone.

Are we counting Dumbledore as a teacher? If so, then Dumbledore/anyone. I also really don't like Slughorn's whole deal in that context, so Slughorn/anyone is up there as well, Harry's generation or his parents'.

Ah, yes. I remember some deeeeply troubling Dumbledore/powertrip "it's for the greater GOOD" type stuff. top spot on the list.
Lessie, who else is missing on the potentially creepy list ... Firenze. Obviously. Oooh, and of course, same issue, different beast - Lupin.
Oh! And there was a tiny corner which really leaned into the "Lockhart uses memory charms to get away with a ton of rape" angle.

... it occurs to me that I've never seen MadEye-But-Really-Polyjuiced-Villain/ anyone and I thank my lucky stars I missed THAT Rule34.

Slughorn really comes off as a groomer. Much more than Snape, lol. And Dolores got a little too excited when she was torturing Harry. So I think anything with either of those two.

Yeah, Slughorn's creepy groomer vibe was off the charts. Think there's just generally less fic with that vibe since he's not considered "sexy" in the way Snape is, thus there's less stuff romanticized relationships and more dark'n'wrong.
Speaking of dark'n'wrong - do the Carrows get any play other than torture in fic? Asking... for a friend.

That's, like, an embarrassment of riches. It's also highly dependent on what you find creepy.

Dolores/Anyone is creepy, sure, but also hits some pretty generic s&m vibes at the same time.

Snape/Harry is creepy because you just know Snape's imagining that Harry is Lily the whole time.

Hagrid/Anyone is creepy just because.

Lockhart/Anyone is creepy because there are probably magic roofies involved.

Barty Crouch Mad-Eye is creepy, but also kind of hot?

Snape/Harry can double-down on that creepy with additional 'hate!sex since you look like your father' vibes.
Embarrassment of riches is right - damn this fandom was full of insane pairings back in the day.

Same. As a 38 year old who had crushes on some of my teachers, I always saw myself as Hermione when I read it way back when so I don't see it as creepy.

Depended GREATLY on how it's done, but there's a fair few that hit my personal sweet-spot of the "brilliant student uses her brain to seduce dour but brilliant academic into first teaching arcane knowledge and then getting her off" trope.
But to find those fics, to be fair, one did have to filter through a good deal of typical schoolgirl-themed porn which was so OOC aside that, aside from actor-based (double eeew) character descriptions there'd be really no way to say it was Hermione/Snape rather than any other couple.

I still get comments and kudos on my fics from 20 years ago (uploaded them to AO3 about 10 years ago) so people are still enjoying them too.

I don't do HP fandom anymore because JKR just became too much to take, but it's still my favorite pairing.

That's the creepiest? I wouldn't even call it the creepiest Snape/student pairing. It definitely wouldn't rank for me as the creepiest teacher/student pairing in that fandom - like, Umbridge, Quirrel, Crouch (as Moody), even Lockhart.

But I am curious how Snape/Harry is less creepy to you than Snape/Hermione.

I am okay with student/teacher pairings in fic, by the way, but I am fully aware of the issues.

Snape/Harry is way creepier because of Snape's history with Harry's parents. He doesn't have anything like that with Hermione. (The parents thing can also be a big part of the appeal of that pairing in the right hands though, I'm not hating on it).

Guys, save a little vitriol in the tank for when the secret is posted. This will go up, and we've already had the megathread. If you responded here instead of saving it, then you've just contributed to why the comm is dying. Good job, people, great job.

Fuck off. The secret will still have discussions from the multiple people who don’t read the comment threads. There have even been secrets being just as snotty as you in judging people who respond to the comment threads, so there’s obviously people who wait for the secrets to go up to say their thoughts.

And saying discussion is why a community is dying, because it’s discussion “in the wrong place :c” is so dumb. One secret having “premature” discussion before it goes up isn’t hurting anything. And discussions with multiple people of any kind(except trolling and bigotry ofc) are a net positive to the community, regardless of where the discussion is. Did you think this through before you decided to be a condescending ass and posted this nonsense? Obviously not, otherwise you would have realized all the holes in your logic.

Also, if you actually read the comment thread instead of assuming, you’d know that there isn’t any “vitriol”. This was not a heated discussion. It’s been positive, with people only talking about their different opinions on this topic.
