I’m always going to be a little sad and resentful that the Yakuza/Ryu ga Gotoku series didn’t get popular in the West until later. Just in general, but especially because if it had, we could have gotten dubs for the rest of the games before 7. Yes, the dub in the first was bad and filled with minor celebrities who couldn’t voice act, but I loved it’s cheesiness! The JP tract is still great tho.

I’m still happy it is popular now, and I don’t resent buyers for it not taking off right away, I blame advertisers. Magazines described the first game as “like a Japanese GTA”. Yeah, no.

(SA but this is a different secret related to Yakuza, because there wouldn’t be enough space for both)


I both understand, and hate how people say to skip the first Yakuza game and play Kiwami instead.

I understand, because it’s a great remake and game overall, and buying a copy of the original would be expensive and probably not worth it for most. It’s Sony’s fault for not considering game preservation a priority for the first two eras, and not making the originals available digitally.

But I still hate it because Kiwami can’t replace the OG as one of my fave games, and it can’t recreate that nostalgic PS2 feel that I adore! It’s just a different feel.

S!B: “It’s not the same” isn’t a good argument, and I know it.
