(Anonymous) 2022-02-13 10:10 am (UTC)(link)And it can be really sexist at times, acting like these shows are just bait for women who like slash/yaoi, and that the women who enjoy them can’t have any other reason to like them other than shipping. And also that liking to ship m/m ships in a work is not a good enough reason to like the work, because there’s nothing wrong with that. Not to mention it can imply that the women who like these shows just “fall for the slash/fujoshi bait”, and will take anything that has attractive shippable men in it, without deeper reasoning. Now I’m not saying AYRT is being sexist or implying these things. By all accounts, I really don’t think they are. I just bring up the sexist implications it can have elsewhere to explain why I really hate it when people use the term “slashbait”/“fujoshibait”. I heard enough of that from sexist entitled otaku dudes who freaked out when Free! came out because it meant that KyoAni wasn’t pandering to them for one damn show, and those same incel otakus continue to pull the same shit with other shows aimed at women such as Seraph of the End. So it’s especially frustrating to hear someone on F!S say it, because the person who’s saying it is otherwise perfectly reasonable with their criticisms of Good Omens only being diverse in the background characters. But then they call it slashbait, and all of their understandable attitude almost means nothing, because they’ve resorted to such a cheap derisive term.
