Favorite tv villains

Who are some of your favorite tv villains? Could be recurring villains or villains from just a single episode that really stuck out to you.

Original Mark Pellegrino Lucifer was delightful. Cas!Lucifer was good as well. I hated Sam Lucifer.

Gus Fring is an obvious one. Giancarlo Esposito is just so menacing!

Buffy had a ton of great one time villains such as The Gentlemen, Gnarl, and Sweet.

spike was great as a recurring villain - they really should have stuck to having him drive on in, FUCK UP EVERYTHING and drive on out again for another season

Scorpius from Farscape. One of those villains who is so good at being villainous, you almost start rooting for him. He was all cheekbones, space-bdsm gear, and a terrifyingly ruthless sense of purpose.

He was GOOD VALUE.

Scorpy was my first thought for this too. I think the show did a great job of showing a villain who truly doesn't see himself as a villain and acts accordingly, Scorpius has his own goals and is willing to do whatever he thinks he needs to in order to pursue them. It's hard to believe they originally only intended him for one arc.

Speaking of Farscape, I'll add Crais to this as well. He's not much in season one but the ultimate way his arc goes is amazing.

Eurotrash Cartoon Anon: not to spoil but, the real villain revealed at the end of LastMan. Was an interesting character already from the start, became even better with that reveal.

I'm hesitant to say, but Gul Dukat from Deep Space Nine. I'm hesitant, because if I say he is a villain, I'm half expecting Marc Alaimo to pop into existence beside me to tell me how Dukat was the hero all along. That is why he was the greatest Star trek badguy, Alaimo played him like he was the show's main protagonist.

I really liked Dukat, he's such a fun character to hate as a villain.

Jack Cassidy and Robert Culp from Columbo - I'm going with the actors here rather than the characters, because each of them played multiple different murderers, and both of them were consistently excellent. Cassidy in particular is so iconic, he's so unflappable and urbane and smirk-y and watching Columbo doggedly harass him until he completely loses his cool and flips out is classic. Also John Cassavetes and Leonard Nimoy were fantastic villains as well.

Cancer man. So casually creepy.

Princess Ardala in Buck Rogers is sort of the polar opposite - so over the top and the actress is absolutely leaning into the campiness, so much that I have no idea how many takes they must have had to do in order to get through certain scenes without someone cracking up.

...It's weird, I can't think of a lot of TV shows I watch that have definite villains, especially ones that don't wind up joining the heroes. Maybe because I don't watch a lot of TV in general. Game villains, I'd have a long, long list. Handful of anime villains come to mind too.

The Devil from Brimstone. You cannot go wrong with John Glover. (I would say also Lionel Luthor, but I only ever watched a few episodes of Smallville. Brimstone was where I was properly introduced to how fantastic John Glover is at playing a villain)

Servalan from Blake’s 7. She was one of those villains that made young baby me think seriously about my moral compass, because she made being a space tyrant look really good.

Alfred Bester from Babylon 5. I’m putting Bester because he was fairly uncontrovertibly a villain, unlike, say, Londo or G’Kar, and boy was Walter Koenig having fun being the villain.

The godmother/step-mother in Fleabag, just a truly lovingly written terrible person, and Olivia Coleman is just great.

Tywin from GOT. again the character was augmented by Charles Dance

Rowan Pope form Scandal. Terrible villain after his main purpose was resolved in all honesty but always fun to see on screen.

DeanThat one shining moment when Cas took over S4!Ruby, love her. I just love Rowena forever villain or no. The Benders were wild.

Sue on Glee was terrible but was clearly what kept the spark alive.

Walt was one of the best villain protagonists I've seen on tv.

Rupaul and the other producers on RPDR

Sterling from Leverage. He's technically a good guy, since the cast are thieves, and I love that he's ALWAYS one step ahead of the team.

almost all the characters on Boardwalk Empire are killers, crooks or just huge liars and I love that show, does that count?
