Radical vegan groups have finally made me too guilty to eat cuts of steak and pork, because they look too much like parts of an animal. I now only eat meat processed into sausages and other pre-formed shapes. I'm not sure that was what they wanted, especially since by all accounts the animals destined for those are treated worse than ones for whole cuts, but I like the taste of meat and I don't have to think it was an animal this way.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-13 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
that's weird.
Maybe you could try hunting or watch some farming shows and come back to meat.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-14 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Baby come back to meat!~

(Anonymous) 2022-02-13 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I give zero brainspace to what radical vegan groups say, but I actually find that eating meat that is still recognizably an animal part makes me feel obligated to respect the animal's sacrifice more, kinda. Like looking at a thanksgiving turkey where all its parts are still in their original configuration really brings it home that a whole-ass bird was killed so we could feast, so it makes me feel like we should make sure to respect that and not waste any of it

I think it was Grimes(?) or some other formerly vegan celeb who said they eat hot dogs guilt free because they are made of scraps.

Vegans have made you feel guilty about eating meat so you only eat super processed, super salty meat now?

I give absolutely no fucks about what radical vegans say or think. Not eating something that's all ready dead and meant to be eaten isn't going to bring it back to life, nor is it going to stop people from consuming meat entirely.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-14 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. And when you get right down to it, there are very, very few species of animals in the world that don't eat meat in some form. Even things like squirrels and rabbits and deer will eat meat if it's there. Most creatures are omnivorous to some degree.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-14 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno that squirrels, rabbits, and deer will eat meat if there's plenty of their preferred diet around.

Iirc deer will eat bones and baby birds to rectify calcium deficiencies but not just randomly, and I assume most herbivores will do similarly, but would suffer and die on an all meat diet.

And cats are obligate carnivores but still nibble grass. It doesn't mean they won't die without meat.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-14 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Squirrels will eat anything. Squirrels will crawl out of a pile of nuts and berries to go eat half a hot dog that someone dropped on the ground. Squirrels should not be used as an example of any sort of behavior other than squirrels.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-14 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Right, but my point was that even animals that mainly eat plants can and will eat meat at times, so the idea that humans shouldn't eat meat or that it's unnatural for humans to eat meat is just patently false because there are very, very few species that do not and will not eat meat at all.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-14 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT--I've been a vegetarian for almost 30 years, and the idea that it's unnatural for humans to eat meat is ridiculous because we're omnivores, not because most species will eat meat if they can get it.

Most herbivores would suffer on an omnivorous diet, never mind a carnivorous one, but that doesn't apply to humans, who can basically eat anything that isn't deadly poisonous to humans in tiny doses (and some things that are, like pokeweed and fugu.)

Tbh most super restrictive diets bug me. I dgaf if someone's vegan, but once people start adding qualifiers like "raw organic no sugar etc etc" it moves from diet meaning "the kind of food someone eats" to diet like "unhealthy food restriction promoted by a multibillion-dollar diet industry."

But humans are different from other animals in that we’re more capable of complex emotions like empathy, guilt, and compassion. Saying it’s only natural for humans to eat meat because other omnivorous animals can and do when they need to isn’t really a good argument. We’re not living in the same environment of survival and instinct as most other animals, and haven’t been for quite awhile. Our way of thinking and feeling is broader and different. There’s really no comparing us to other animals in this way.

I am vegan, but I don’t have a problem with others eating meat, because my vegan experience is admittedly based on my own emotions and lack of want to eat meat or animal products, and not out of activism. So I don’t think coming up with excuses is like “other animals do it” or any others is necessary. Eat meat if you want to because you can, or don’t because you don’t want to. There shouldn’t be any deeper reasons for wanting to eat meat, no matter what some radicals say.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-14 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Squirrels eat both bird eggs and baby birds if they can get to them any day.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-14 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen a red squirrel eating roadkill. Possibly a rabbit.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-14 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
This is the oldest and stupidest argument against veganism. (Most) vegans don't object to the act of eating animals, they object to the cruel way animals are raised and treated in order for us to eat them and their byproducts.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-14 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Since most vegans also are against people eating ethically raised and sourced animal byproducts and aren't willing to have their misconceptions corrected (like the multiple vegans who think that anyone who doesn't believe that honey is made of ground up bees has been Taken In by Big Honey), I'm going to call bullshit on that one.

However, it's less of an issue than how the same vegans who will shame the hell out of someone for eating a chicken egg from a chicken they keep as a pet because they think the chicken is being exploited have zero issues with their out-of-season plant-based diets and "vegan" clothing options that require environmental devastation and the exploitation of hundreds of thousands of human beings to sustain.

Vegetarians are cool though. The world could use more vegetarians.

So... your upset about your own life decisions. Don't have the balls to face up to them, so you're crying on the Internet instead. YOU EAT DEAD ANIMALS WHO ARE RAISED AND SLAUGHTERED IN A BARBARIC SYSTEM. We all do. That isn't even propaganda, it's just the straight fucking truth. Learn to shop your meat more ethically or get the fuck over it and shut up.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-14 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Chill out. You’re coming off as way more annoyingly self-righteous than you think OP or radicals are.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-14 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
NAYRT
Die on that hill alone with your fucking attitude, you piece of shit. Not everyone can afford to shop ethically because they're poor and live in a "food desert".
You're probably the kind of numbskull that hates Zionists too.

This reminds of that a recent r/AmItheAsshole where a woman told her friend's child she didn't have any ham sandwiches that he'd asked for, and when he asked why told him because she doesn't agree with killing animals, and now her friend is mad at her lmao.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-14 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
People are just cowards when it comes to the truth.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-14 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
If you're not a vegan or vegetarian why the heck are you listening to radical vegans?

(Anonymous) 2022-02-14 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't let anyone force you to do things.
