I don't think that's true at all - nobody wants to see "Hey I'm so amazing and this is the best high school AU fic ever, everybody can stop writing high school AU fic now" like that one author, but also nobody wants to hear "I'm so terrible, this is shit, just don't read it and if you do I'm sorry." That's just emotional vampirism on the reader. Just post the fucking fic and be done with it.
