Are you entirely new to fandom? "Slash" is literally just what any m/m ship is called. It's way older than "m/m." It carries no positive or negative connotations. Do you know what virtually all "queer people looking for an outlet" call it when they write about it for fandom? Slash. That's just what it's called.

Yep. It comes from Kirk/Spock, the original slash ship, so named because of the slash in between the character names. It goes back to the early '70s, if not eariler.
