what does gay people go brrrr mean?

(Anonymous) 2022-02-15 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe the gay people needed to put on an extra sweater because they were cold?

(Anonymous) 2022-02-15 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
In my head, this book is now about a gay expedition to the South Pole.

Near as I can figure, gay people go brrrr means gay people exist. The go brr thing seems to come from a machine making a noise as it works.

All I could think of was an epic bass drop.

Like a lost Skrillex song. “Gay people go brrrrrr brr brr brr brr brrr~”

(Anonymous) 2022-02-16 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
short answer, it's a meme

long answer, the original meme "was money printer go brrr" which is about the economy - it depicts conservatives complaining about the federal government doing deficit-spending and taking inflationary actions (in effect, printing money) while a guy representing the federal government says "hahahaha money printer go brrr". the basic setup of the meme is the "money printer go brrr" guy is sort of stupid but he's also winning. he's a big idiot and doesn't care about any of the surrounding arguments so he can just watch the money printer go, and that's a victory. and then the phrase got adapted to express that basic sentiment in other contexts - basically the message is "i am a simple person and i am simply enjoying some thing and none of the discourse about it can bother me and therefore I win".

so in this context, "gay people go brrr" probably means something akin to "hahahaha there are gay people in this book so I love it and I love being gay. brain empty no thoughts just gay".

Thank you for this clear and in-depth explanation!

(Anonymous) 2022-02-16 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you for explaining! - I've been seeing this meme go round for ages and was too afraid to ask what it meant.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-16 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
This is really minor, but the original meme was about the a-10 plane. Lots of people said that the a-10 sucks and should be retired already, but fans replied that the plane's machine gun goes BRRRT. There was also a bunch of memes beforehand about the infamous machine gun noise (srsly the noise is worth checking on YouTube), but the a-10 goes BRRR was successful enough to escape context.

That's what I thought it was lol. I remember it from 4chan days.

There seems to be Serious Debate over whether the A-10 meme and the money printer meme are actually the same or are two unrelated memes that resemble each other

but the money printer meme is definitely the reason it's a thing in the last couple years

Ah, I was not aware of the money printer meme. I do want to say that I think the explanation behind what the money printer meme means was very well done.

Thank you!
I can get meaning from context, but I've never known about printer thing

My fucking question, too.
