As a fellow 30-something, yeah :(
I'm mostly on Tumblr for fandom stuff, but because of the years when Tumblr was at its most toxic (and assuming everyone over 25 was a peddo), I've been really distant on there while posting my fanworks but not interacting with anyone. Although I do get nice comment in the tags from time to time, I'm wary of replying most of the time and just think about how different it was in the LJ days - and yes there was drama there too, it was still a less lonely experience compared to now.
I do really wonder if fandom spaces in the future are going to frizzle out or just revert back to sharing zines in the post or some equivalent.

This is me. I feel like most of the people who interact with me are in their early 20s and it makes me feel so weird. I want to fandom with people who are closer in age to me. ='(

Part of me wouldn't mind if fandom spaces were broken up in their little parts. Maybe some dedicated space to a specific series, and some other dedicated space for a range of books/shows/games. (Note that I'm not saying we should never have large spaces, but I think some of it is too large that it's confusing for newer fans and possibly not properly moderated enough that idiots are going off. If that makes sense.) I guess what I'm hoping is that the smaller spaces will attract the more like-minded folks and there'll be less conflict (less, not necessarily none).

God. I cringe at my much younger self, thinking about it. I'm glad enough there were enough people to go "wtf?" and/or ignore my idiocy, and just carry on.
