I'm sorry, OP. It sucks that you were trying to contribute something nice to the fandom and just got negativity in response. That's why I won't move to Twitter despite one of my fandoms apparently being much more active there. I'd rather talk to an empty room than be called out by sex-obsessed people with very little actual life/sex/romantic experience confidently calling my way of interacting with a fandom as evidence I'm a real-life pedophile or whatever. Tumblr is slightly better because Twitter absorbed most of the worst fans, but I still have to dodge people there too.

OP

Thank you (and thanks to everybody else who's been commiserating)! :(

These days I just talk to the fandom friends I was able to make through Twitter-- and thankfully a few are even on the older end as well. I miss the community feel, but don't miss seeing terrible takes and worrying someone will try to drum up a callout for my ship (which is frankly VERY tame as far as "problematic" goes lol). At least Tumblr is easier to curate and navigate than Twitter, but I already know I won't try to run a wider fan event for this fandom again for a long, long time.

What sucks even more is knowing some of the fan events I helped run raised money for charity. Like, is it so important to you people to be right on the internet than to fundraise for a good cause...? Wtf?
