True I don't think the "don't say anything bad ever" IW circlejerk is as bad these days but there are still a few on reddit who will crucify you if you don't think it's the most epic villain-protagonist journey and superhero film overall ever.

I think the fact some of the more neutral viewers were disappointed by Endgame or felt it didn't live up to the hype may have neutered IW fandom a bit. Idk.

People who have a vested interest in villain journeys often have very strong views. Views which are best ignored. The usually have strong opinions on age of consent laws, the use of the word ephebophilia, and women's rights to choose.

As someone who loves villain-protagonists, I hate that so much and I hate more that you're not wrong.

I love villain-protagonists usually but really do not like MCU Thanos so you can imagine what my life was like circa 2018-19 in certain fandom spaces...

Yepppp. He was a shit protagonist AND a shit villain. There was no upside. Usually I can at least appreciate the evil, but nope. Pathetic and infuriating.

what makes you think there's a villain protagonist in infinity game? Are we talking thanos?

A common view is that IW is Thanos' story.

oh wow i hate that, lmao. He's rather baldly a foil for Tony, and since they've done zero with him before that had to be built up with screentime, including his relationship with Gamora, but that makes him more clearly an antagonist rather than protagonist, not less.

I mean, yeah, I don't agree with that take at all and it's often just one step below the obnoxious "Thanos was right" crowd.

I don't like it either anon. I think(?) what happened was one of the directors/writers made a comment along the lines of there being an argument that the lead character in IW is Thanos and a certain section of fandom (such as Reddit) really went with it and ran it into the ground.
