It used to be books, but I use the library a lot more these days. Another "Used to be" thing was comics, something that started in the 1970s. Almost always Marvel, (loved me some Colan/Palmer art and stories, along with Gulacy/Moench) though a few indies. Since my Best Beloved loves comics as much as I do, those I saved before meeting him became part of our joint collection, which swelled during the 80s and early 90s (again, almost always Marvel plus some indies like The Authority & its connected titles). We still have in bins in the basement and take upstairs from time to time to reread and view. We never thought of them as saleable. When the basement was hit with a flood, our apartment was filled with drying racks so that we could rescue the sodden comics. We were successful, which made the apartment looking like a Newfoundland cod-drying village fine by us.

Today, I collect Dr. Who action figures, and political action figures (Bernie, Obama, AOC, etc.) all of which have pride of place on our fireplace mantle.
