Did you collect anything when you were a kid? Are you collecting anything now? Getting rid of anything or getting back into collecting? Talk about it here!

Bruises, scars and traumas. I'm not thinking of building that collection back up.

I used to collect Monopoly sets. Don't have the money to buy any more, though I still have the ones I've gotten so far. Someday I'll take it back up.

And if it counts, I'm a Tolkien completists who wants to own as much of what he wrote as a possibly can, no matter how obscure.

Comic books. I had to sell most of my collection when I moved several states away from where I originally lived, and have not been building my collection back up. Too expensive, and too space consuming.

i feel this. i had a lot of single issues that i sold a while back for dirt cheap because none were really rare and they were taking up SO much space.

God same, I've got dozens of document boxes taking up a closet. I'm switching to digital, I'll buy the occasional trade through my lcs but I just cannot handle more paper in my home.

I didn't collect anything when I was little (we moved around too much) but now I collect hockey things and elephants. But not elephant hockey things.

I used to collect cool looking rocks and anything Dinosaur related when I was little.

Now, I'm colleting books, art supplies, old pennies from before 1980, and eyeshadow pallettes.

I have the hardest time finding eyeshadow pallettes that aren't 90% brown.

I used to collect Pokemon cards. As an adult, I collect perfume.

Still have the Pokemon cards, though!

Fistbump from a fellow fragrance collector. :) What did you most recently acquire? And what are your favorites?

Frogs, dice, rocks, seaglass, swords...as an adult, I do still collect dice, just of the polyhedral variety these days.

My collecting impulse runs deep.

My first serious bout of collecting was Beanie Babies, lol. I think I had at least seventy by the time that craze started waning. Most of them were the standard $10 editions, but I had a few that were slightly more collectable. They were pretty much all I asked for as gifts for two or three years. In my defense, I wasn't collecting them under the belief they would make me rich one day or whatever some of the collectors believed for a while there. I was ten/eleven/twelve and I just got kind of obsessed with collecting them for their own sake.

After Beanie Babies I had a bit of a San Rio phase. This made sense at the time, because I lived in a small town and the only way I could buy San Rio merch was by going to a neighboring city. It was hard to come by, and that made it desirable. I remember La Senza Girl had San Rio merch and I was obsessed with going there.

In 2020 I got pretty heavily into collecting Fragrances. I'd already been casually collecting for years, but in the second half of 2020 I went hard. It's an expensive-ass hobby, though, and fortunately I burned out on it pretty quickly. I bought around 90 samples, and 8 full bottles in the second half of 2020, and then was like, I don't think this is making me happy??? and dialed it way back. One great thing that came out of my fragrance collecting phase, though, is that it taught me to shift my mentality from "I need a bottle of this fragrance," to, "I will be content with a 10ml decant of this fragrance." I can pay a fraction of the price for a decant, and it takes up less space, and I actually stand a good chance of using it up.

Those have been my main collections, I guess, but I lowkey collect lots of things. Usually when I first get interested in a particular type of item I get REALLY interested and want to Collect All The Things. Then, after a while, I stop fixating and start making a conscious effort to curb my acquisition of more stuff I don't need.

Are the 10mls travel sizes or smaller?

I bought a travel size of the perfume people had been raving about because Rihanna smells so good in it, Love Don't Be Shy, and it gave me a migraine. I was so disappointed, because it's a good scent.

Have you tried those Escentuals ones?

I've been collecting badges since I was ten and wanted to keep a few of the birthday badges I had gotten over the years - so now my collection lives in one of those Fullmetal Alchemist dvd tins.

Also I'm trying to collect all of CLAMPs works and as much merch as I can find that isn't Card Captor Sakura.

I collect things in phases. I was collecting dolls, then anime box sets, and now I'm collecting pins. I'll probably bounce back to dolls sooner or later. I collected shiny rocks when I was a kid and I still have a box of them stored away somewhere.

i got into itabags a while ago and let me tell you, THAT was a mistake for my wallet and storage. i don't really regret it though since the nature of itabags means that i really love all the characters i have pins and charms of

Animorphs Books.

Beanie Babies! I had tons of them, mostly Macdonalds and knock-offs, and they were very throughly played with. They're in bins now. If interest in them picks up I'll pull out a few I especially loved and throw the rest at an thrift store.

Books! And anime DVDs! Although I had to thin the collection by a LOT when I moved, and sold about 80% of it. With still left me with about ten boxes of that stuff.

The only thing I have continuously collected has been cards and postcards. I have a whole box and I made up a 'postcard wall' where I display them and rotate them out seasonally.

As a kid, I collected some book series's. Which I guess I still do. I remember a pog crazy for a while. Pretty rocks.

As an adult, pin-back buttons and pins. My fridge is covered in buttons I've snipped the pin off of and glued magnets to.

As a kid, I had a rock collection that I partnered up with little lizard toys (the finger length rubber ones).

I moved into teacups until one of them broke lol

And metal juice caps

I had a rock collection, and a huge collection of pinback buttons, both lost to the sands of time, along with my childhood comics and stationery.

Now, I have a new and more modest mostly-local mineral collection, and while I do have some new pinback buttons, I mostly focus on enamel pins as an adult collector. My current stationery cache is... considerable, but I haven't really replaced the comic collection-- it's a lot easier on my wallet and my shelf-space if I check out comic tpbs through the library!

It used to be books, but I use the library a lot more these days. Another "Used to be" thing was comics, something that started in the 1970s. Almost always Marvel, (loved me some Colan/Palmer art and stories, along with Gulacy/Moench) though a few indies. Since my Best Beloved loves comics as much as I do, those I saved before meeting him became part of our joint collection, which swelled during the 80s and early 90s (again, almost always Marvel plus some indies like The Authority & its connected titles). We still have in bins in the basement and take upstairs from time to time to reread and view. We never thought of them as saleable. When the basement was hit with a flood, our apartment was filled with drying racks so that we could rescue the sodden comics. We were successful, which made the apartment looking like a Newfoundland cod-drying village fine by us.

Today, I collect Dr. Who action figures, and political action figures (Bernie, Obama, AOC, etc.) all of which have pride of place on our fireplace mantle.
