Because adaptation necessitates change, no matter how slight, and sometimes it's fun to see the story from angles untouched upon in the film. Obviously this doesn't apply to original screenplays, because nothing's been adapted.

To be fair, there are straight men who don't like anal sex with women-- think of it more like that. For hygene, sensation, or whatever, some people just aren't going to like certain sexual acts. (Note: this is the same reason that there can be tops and bottoms, people who never perform oral sex, people who never swallow, etc etc-- some things just aren't for everyone. And if you're a gay man who doesn't like anal sex either way, you're probably going to find another gay man who shares you distaste for it, so you don't have one part of the relationship pressuring the other.)

I think your use of the word 'distaste' is indicative of your heternormative views on anal sex.
Gay anal sex cannot be equated to heterosexual anal sex. If you really want to draw parallels then they should be between the typical form of het penetrative intercourse (vaginal) and gay penetrative intercourse (anal). But oh, no, God forbid someone compares the holy grail of adult sexual interaction (vaginal intercourse) with something as 'distasteful' as anal sex.

Anal sex for gays is not what it is for straight people: it isn't that extra kinky, once-a-year-on-your-birthday kinda event. It is the everyday reality for gay men. Look at it this way, how many heterosexual couples do you know that don't partake in vaginal sex?

Some straight men prefer anal sex. To some straight people, it isn't a "extra kinky, once-a-year-on-your-birthday" thing In fact, it seems like you know little to nothing about hetero sexual preferences, as much as you like to assume the sexual preferences of gay men.

Also, it seems like there's a lot of work that goes into having anal sex (at least, the sanitary kind). Beyond procuring the proper lube, you have to anally douche, unless you want feces all over your partner's penis (this is what my gay roommate told me, although I could've already assumed as much). So I would think that other sexual practices exist as an alternative for gay men who want to have sex on the fly, like blowjobs, or mutual masturbation or whatever.

Actually, I'm pretty fucking offended that you seem to think that "real sex" = penetration. To me, that seems pretty hetero-normative.

I know of three couples who don't, one of the couples having been together for 15 years without having anal together. They've both done it before but it isn't for them and luckily they found a life partner who felt the same way.
