You really don't need to worry about this. Russia wants Ukraine, not a nuclear wasteland. It's just a strategically important area.

It has a lot of old Soviet era tech lying around it, big radio antenna, but also the sarcophagus has to be monitored 24/7 by an international team. As long as Russia holds it, it means that we can't just completely cut ties with it. We have no choice but to deal with them on at least this limited level.

That doesn't, of course, preclude the chance of an almighty cock up caused by a lot of armed men standing around who have zero experience in handling sleeping nuclear giants. It doesn't have to be deliberate malfeasance in order to make things worse.

I'm just saying, there are options. People have done it in the past, some people are undoubtedly doing it now. I'm not saying you have to do it, just saying that staying at home and worrying isn't your only option. Hell, go to your local priest and ask if they know a Ukrainian charity that needs help and you can run a drive to help them gather whatever funds and material they need. Sitting and worrying isn't your only option.

Why not redirect that to writing positive messages and letters to relevant agencies and electoral representatives to direct aid to Ukraine. There is always something you can do.
