I mean it is pretty doofy, and I say this with all love and fondness. I feel it works better in Old Who, which had that kind of stage show artifice to it? Like, you knew going in that that was a styrofoam rock, and you knew that was a quarry in Wales, and you could really tell that this was a sci-fi show done on a budget more suited to a snack run down to the shops. So you kind of went in with more of an upfront suspension of disbelief, and that made it easier to roll with. Because it’s a goofy-ass show, but it’s a goofy-ass show with sometimes really good storylines and sometimes some really horrifying things can happen and there’s some decent sci-fi and moral quandries in there. Just, you know, also visible styrofoam and hammy acting and ridiculous aliens and a painfully visible budget for a lot of its run.
