I LOVE this song (mostly because my mother and I think the run about the cake is amazing to sing). It's dumb as hell! But evocative in the most mundane way you could dream of . Like if someone with a tedious imagination but wonderful musical talent wrote a song. Truly a masterpiece. A hope for all the people who have half written full-wrought songs in their journals.

Wait! Is this the Donna Summer Last Dance song? Because the beginning of that song always got me/confused me (like surely, she's not sungung about cake recipes...)

they're different songs she recorded at different times, but there's definitely an LP somewhere where Last Dance goes into the MacArthur Park, and she tends to sing them together live, i think.

It's an incredibly fun song to sing! And it just goes on and on. It's not a good song by any stretch but it's fun as hell if you have a high tolerance for melodrama.
