This was my reaction when I first watch that show 18 (YO WTF????) years ago.
I was a 15 years old kid and I laughed my ass off because it was sooo cliché. It was not in the manga too, if I remember correctly (or if it was I was very unimpressed). I was so confused at to what the hell was that bad writing.
All the memes of that scene being dramatic are not relatable to me.
