Eh.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-08 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I want to argue twice.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-08 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Hell, shit, this is the Internet. People argue about the same topics way more than 2 times.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-09 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
Not usually in exactly the same words though

(Anonymous) 2022-03-09 12:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Say you’ve never been in an ongoing argument without saying it.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-09 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree that it's silly to just copy-paste the same argument.

The 2nd time around, you already know what the other person's points are going to be, so your argument should be better prepared for that.

Sorry, I’m going to be annoying and repeat what I said in the text secret but essentially for me it’s 1. When the post goes up and 2. My time zone. Sometimes I get a back and forth going. Other times I don’t. Sometimes I’m reading over breakfast and it feels like most of the discussion has fizzled out. If I have the opportunity to comment again and I might pick up a response or two, I take it.

Agree about the secret makers being fantastic of course!

Sometimes I get really excited about what the text secret says and want to comment right then and there.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-09 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Because I feel like it. That's it. That's why.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-09 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
I respond because I see something I want to respond to. I'm not here every day, and even when I am here, I don't always sync up to peak conversation time. If I waited until something I was interested in discussing was posted as an official secret, there's a decent chance I'd miss the conversation entirely.

I can think of a few reasons

(Anonymous) 2022-03-09 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Like, commenters not sure they'll be around for the actual secret thread, or maybe they think they might forget a salient point that they have in their mind right now, or they're not sure they'll be up to responding later, etc.

But, really, why is having the conversation more than once an issue? Online and offline, that happens all the time, people tell the same story, or reminisce about the same thing, or talk about the same thing without anything new to add. Just like someone might like to listen to the same song or watch the same movie, they want to share the same opinion again. Maybe they'll get the same response, maybe they'll get a different one, either way, if they don't mind, what does it matter if they want to do it again?

(Anonymous) 2022-03-09 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I don't read the thread so I appreciate the comment being copied to where I do see the discussion. For what it's worth.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-09 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
The conversations will be separated by days, even a week. Things change. And we're hear to communicate.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-09 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Eeesh. If you don't want to read the comments twice or that annoys you, avoid that thread?

I steer clear of it so I can be surprised by the secrets.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-09 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
What thread?

(Anonymous) 2022-03-09 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
The General Comments section (at the bottom, below the discussions for the secrets) periodically has a thread called something like "secrets you don't want to make". It's posted by our resident volunteer secret-maker who very kindly turns peoples' commented secrets into images and submits them.

I am posting this now simply to make a point. The new post has gone up. No one will likely read this. I was not available to check fandomsecrets yesterday so this is the first time I could comment on this actual secret.

But I was able to comment on the thread when it was active and leave my two cents at the appropriate time.

Posting this now to simply make a point too. I read it and responded.
