Yeah totally, I think it boils down to what you're attempting to write tbh. An ethnicity or sexuality etc that's not yours in a setting that doesn't focus or highlight any struggles that may come with it? You're probably fine just making sure that you're writing them as accurately as possible and getting that feedback from as many people as possible.

A setting where the focus IS them being 'other'? Probably not your place to write, good intentions or no, no matter how much of a 'good idea' you have.
