I guess I was aware of that, but not of any criticism or “pissy-ness” when people wrote the character more in line with canon.

The Loki side of the fandom is imploding over this. The show brought him more in-line with his comic characterisation, and people who like Loki to be this cold, emotionless daddy dom are not happy.

NAYRT - The petty gremlin side of my personality is cackling gleefully at this, because I can't express how much I loathe the idea of cold, emotionless daddy dom Loki. Not that there's anything invalid about that being your headcanon for the character--that' s why it's the petty gremlin side of my personality that's delighted.

haha right? But organising letter writing campaigns to Disney to "petition" for them to re-do a wholeass TV show is the epitome of what this secret is talking about. I hope to hell season 2 doubles down on him being this ADHD magpie person with swiss cheese for brains. This is the Loki I love most.

For real, I have never understood alleged Loki fans who don’t seem to realise he’s one of the most emotional characters in the MCU. If shipping him with another character or an OC/you is your thing, why would you not write him as someone who, much as he might hide it at first, is bursting with emotion for them/you/whatever? I’ve never liked the interpretation that he’s only got one setting: cruelty.

My favourite is the amount of people calling the show OOC. I don't see people complaining that Thor grew a sense of humour nearly as much as I see people complaining that the chaos god is a bit more chaotic. I even loved how the show pointed out that for being the so-called god of mischief, the MCU has not shown us anything to that fact.

I have issues with the show (mostly it didn’t feel like “our” Loki’s show at some points) but will never hate that it allowed him to be a bit fun and have some range beyond being miserable, which it feels like some of those ficcers want.

I mean don’t get me wrong there is a part of me that sometimes wishes TDK would’ve been a for real death (given the excessive cruelty of how IW went down) but another part of me feels like the show is Marvel *maybe* going “whoops, our bad” and letting the character be his own thing for once.

Oh yeah, it was admitted in an interview somewhere that the show was intended to be a retcon for him. It's not "our Loki" because they consciously threw out everything after Avengers 1. And Thor 1 and Avengers 1, we don't even get to see him as he truly is because that's just one big crisis mode for him, where he's playing the role he thinks he needs to play. I kind of love this wrong-footed environment they put him in for the show, because even if it's not the Loki we know from the films, it feels a bit more genuine. He's panicking and doesn't know which strings to pull, so he's just an idiot until he figures it out.

I'm okay with that, because the films treated him so poorly to begin with, and the chaotic energy is so much more fun than the stuffy, buttoned up character he turned into by the end.

Yeah I have such a love hate for the films when it comes to Loki because, the films properly introduced me to the character and there was surely something there I loved initially. But they’ve just never handled him properly beyond a certain point, especially as I got more familiar with other material and interpretations of the character. It feels like they know he’s popular but are annoyed about it because he originally didn’t feature in the post-Avengers Big Arc in their minds.

The one thing I could say about the way things go down in the series is his change in the first episode was a bit quick, but I get it…there’s only so much you can do with six one hour episodes and the lowlights reel of his intended life was a quick way to kick him a certain direction.

Yeah, the first episode was not my favourite. It did feel a bit too manic and rushed at times, just for the sake of getting the plot rolling.

But the feeling I've always got is they accidentally made a very sympathetic character in Thor 1, and then had no idea what to do with that since he was supposed to be the villain. But like, whoops, it turns out his story wound up feeling obscenely relatable to certain demographics who grew up and realised they were loved conditionally, while Thor's story was very rushed and messy by comparison. I just imagine Kevin Feige sitting in a board meeting going, "Wait, no, not like that."
