considering there’s reports Stephanie sang Waiting on a Miracle while heavily pregnant and experiencing her first contractions while doing so, I find her nothing short of amazing, especially when Mirabel is so different from Rosa who I’m used to associating Stephanie with

wow, American work culture is awful. Woman doing her work while heavily pregnant isn't amazing it's horrid

Interesting to see someone assuming all pregnancies are the same. Some women don't have trouble at all with their pregnancies and spend the start of maternity leave bored off their asses. Pregnancy is not in itself a disability. Not to mention the voice work for the whole movie was done during quarantine when *everyone* was already bored off their asses, it might have made a nice change. Oh, and a lot of people love singing and having tiny humans inside them doesn't change that. Unless the umbilical cords and vocal cords are somehow connected.

I did not hear the part about her having contractions, but I did hear about her giving birth a few days after recording that song. If she was in serious discomfort, there is literally no one who would make her stay in the recording booth, no matter how American they were.

I am totally ok with woman doing work if she wants while being pregnant. Good for her. But there is NOTHING heroic or cool, or awesome in doing work while being pregnant. If she felt good, it means she was just doing her job. Saying that this is so ✨awesome✨ just puts pressure on pregnant people who can't work through their pregnancy or just want to focus on their health/child.

This literally has nothing to do with America. This isn’t indicative of American work culture at all, or else pregnancy leaves wouldn’t be a thing. This work culture pressure is unique to the entertainment industry, there’s no need to regionalize it. American work culture can be criticized(all work culture can be too), but this example is absolutely not part of it.

And the fact that you say it’s fine if it’s her choice to do so, but then say that nobody is allowed to commend her for it or else they’re putting pressure on women, makes me think you’re not acting in good faith. Either it’s okay or it isn’t, both opinions are fine and understandable to have. But your contradictions make you seem like you’re reaching to have something to be mad about, and someone to blame.

I don't think it's a contradiction. I think it's fine if she works, but I don't think it's a thing to be so excited about, because health is not a thing that people have a great control over. But I did write it in a bad faith, I agree, I was feeling snappish.
Also going to retreat USA comment, I think,it's more problem of creative spaces. Isn't your (I assume) maternity leave is laughably short, though?

I do see where you’re coming from a bit better now. And accidental bad faith because of snappishness isn’t nearly as bad as bad faith on purpose for manipulation. So it’s not a big deal, we all get snappy sometimes, and I’d be lying if I said my mood never affected the way I go about things before.

The pregnancy leave can be too short in some instances, that’s not wrong. Especially when the pregnancy isn’t recovered from quickly, because of complications or postpartum depression, some people may need more time than the pregnancy leave usually has. But you can go to the courts if your workplace tries to make you come back sooner than you’re ready, or threatens your job. It’s a bit messy. But being messy is genuinely a thing America is known for lol.
