God, same. The inserted homophobia was an exceptionally galling touch, too.

? I quit watching before the end. How did they put homophobia in there? :(

Namely that Loras shouldn't have been mistreated for being gay at all. In the books, it wasn't part of the tenets of the Seven or anything; people gossiped/looked down on it individually, sure, but as long as male heirs produced male heirs, whatever they did in their free time was their business, mostly. If anything, Loras after Renly's death was respected for his loyalty and honor, despite having been sworn to an enemy king, and was even sworn as a kingsguard (canonically partially so nobody would question him for never loving another).
In the show, though, they had Loras sleeping with a random stable boy (because gay men are so /promiscuous/, you see), then had that rando betray him/turn him into the religious authorities, who then tortured him for being gay (because /obviously/ major religion = violent homophobia, can't imagine anything else even though the religions of Westeros were like...actually pretty interestingly thought out imo and not just real-world stand-ins)

Weren't most of the straight characters in GoT sleeping around with random people too? That show just liked putting in sex scenes everywhere for the sake of sex, it hardly seems like having a gay character also sleep with someone random happened because the writers were evilly inserting some gay people are promiscuous propaganda.

you can do stupid shit without doing it "evilly" or even intentionally

(Anonymous) 2022-03-17 10:03 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, no, most of the straight characters were loyal to their loved ones if they were established that way, and disloyal if they weren't. You know how Ned Stark was known for his loyalty and honor and it was known by every character to be shocking that he cheated on Catelyn to produce Jon? That's the type of character Loras is.

DA God, that's horrible.

I totally agree with you about the homophobia and the awful way Loras's character was treated, but didn't he sleep with the stable boy long after Renly was dead? It's not like he was cheating.
