I don't think I ever put it together as a child that Sir Ector was father to *both* of them. Like I genuinely believed Wart was an orphan and that's why he was treated badly -- like he was given a place to sleep and work to do, but he wasn't "one of them" so he was still treated poorly.

Like I found this out in maybe the last 18 months and I'm still shocked lmao

He wasn't tho - Wart was his ward, Kay was his son. The idea is to bring up the ward to be useful to the son (as seen by him being Kay's squire), and Ector had no idea who Wart's real parents were, just that he was doing a favour for Merlin.

Arthur is definitely an orphan. The old king had died and no one could decide who was rightful heir to the throne and all. Arthur. Arthur was rightful heir to the throne. Disney just didn’t want to get too far into the details because it involves a lot of icky behavior on the part of most of the adults involved.
