Not OP, but:

I don’t remember that? I was pretty heavy into the fandom on LJ and FF.N, and I don’t really recall het shippers being treated negatively. DouWata was the juggernaut ship for sure, but pairing Watanuki with Himawari, Zashiki-warashi, and Yuko was also pretty popular. Not to mention the dedicated Clow Reed X Yūko shippers(and as a multishipper, I had a field day with pretty much all of these pairings, plus Watanuki and Saya after I saw the Blood-C movie, because I liked the dynamic, aesthetic, and familiarity between them lol). I wasn’t as heavy into the fandom shortly after Kohane was introduced, even though I still read the all of the manga and watched the anime adaptations to the end(not to mention read Rei and the novels, and watched the mediocre at best movie. What can I say, I’m a bit of a completionist lol). So maybe that anti-het sentiments in fandom started there? Or maybe it was just in some pocket of the fandom outside the LJ and FF.N circles I was in? IDK.

And yeah, the sequel manga isn’t wrapped up, so you never know, I agree with that. But I don’t think it will ever be wrapped up at this rate, unfortunately. It seems like it will be yet another series CLAMP leaves on hiatus forever, effectively abandoned without them ever formally announcing it’s cancellation. Like X-1999, Legal Drug/Drug & Drop, and Gate 7 :/ Maybe I’m wrong. I hope I am, and all of these will be completed someday. Who can say.
