I have decided to take the job offer for the coordinator position. It will be a $18000 pay increase.

But I am nauseous thinking about quitting my current job (of 5 years). I didn't hate working there, I just know that I could literally work work there for the rest of my life and not make what I'll be starting at my new job.

Congrats on the new job. You totally deserve it and you totally deserve the higher salary. I think your current employer should understand. I really hope for you that they do. I'm sorry you are nervous about it, though.

Well, at least it sounds like you could resign on good terms? I feel like overall there is a lot less attention paid to people who can kindly, politely leave one position for one that is "better" in some way (pays more, better benefits, better work/life balance, dream job, WFH, etc) and how it's actually pretty damn good that you can graciously exit. And hopefully, they can also graciously let you go with a handshake and a "good luck." My housemate would not be where she is if she didn't have the guts to take a scary leap and politely leave a dead-end position for one that seemed more in line with her skills. No one at the old place held a grudge, they understood, and she is now moving up in the company and training people, something she's really fucking good at and is compensated well for.

Take your leap, anon! Be calm and polite, emphasize that you've appreciated them the last five years and all is actually well, this is just an opportunity you need to pursue. After the moment of anxiety is over, allow yourself to accept that you're worth that opportunity.

Yeah, I have written down most of the stuff I do so at least someone will have a guide. But they don't really cross train people and no one else at my job can do what I can. :/

Hell yeah, new job with better pay!

I wouldn't worry about quitting your old job. You're not burning bridges or anything. Companies (well, the sane ones) understand that other people have to follow their own path, which may include taking them to other places of work.

Yeah, I hope my last two weeks after my notice are easy. I'll really miss some of the people.

Think of it this way: you're worth $18,000 more than what you're making at your current job. As much as you might like working there, they aren't paying you what you're worth, and you deserve to be in a place that values what you can bring to the job and will pay you accordingly!

I know, it is just hard since I know they are going to be sort of fucked when I leave.
