It’s AO3, because it’s Archive of our Own. There’s 3 “o”s after Archive. So instead of the acronym being AOOO, it’s just counting the number of “o”s that follow the “a”.

I’m probably not explaining this super well, so here’s another example of this type of thing: There’s a video game called Dark Dreams Don’t Die, but it’s called D4 for brevity’s sake most places, including the game itself, with the full name being a subtitle instead.

That makes sense! I always wondered why it's always abbreviated with a three but didn't quite know who to ask.
